I hope that the U.S.'s handling of the Abu Ghraib prison scandal will help restore some slight luster to its tarnished reputation.

...And, Lyndie England should cherish those cute, butchy photos of her in Iraq because she may never look prettier.

The Republicans can blame the Democrats all they want for the failure of Bush's Social Security scheme, but the fact of the matter is: the public ain't buying it.

It looks like "ungodly" has become the new "unamerican."

After selling their souls to Tom Delay I think that the Republicans are starting to feel a little slimy. It’s going to take more than a plane ride with the Prez to save him now that his own party is backing away from him.

If I lived in Florida I would sure stay on the good side of my gun-toting neighbors.

So now the Republicans, pandering for the Jesus vote, are wanting to change the Constitution again to suit their agenda. I've been alive since FDR was president and I have never in my life feared as much for the direction of this country as I do now. I continue to utter my only prayer: Jesus, protect me from your followers.

You would think from the headlines that Republicans never use the filibuster. What a bunch of self-righteous hypocrites!

Thursday night I listened to Bob Dole on the Tonight Show as he described his WWII experiences. I was never in harm’s way, but I did serve in the military. Listening to him made me think of what a big-mouthed, arrogant, little punk George W. Bush is. When he says that he doesn't remember what he did while he was a reservist, I wonder why Bob Dole and I remember everything that we did.

And yet, after writing the above I thought back to how I felt when Dole was known as the Hatchet Man. It’s sort of like when Reagan died; I almost couldn’t remember why I didn’t like him.

Mother Nature knew what she was doing when she kept Bush from making an Earth Day speech at Great Smoky Mountains N.P. It would have been like Osama bin Laden addressing a Fourth of July celebration.

Whenever you hear someone belly aching about the "liberal media" you can bet that they're reporting the truth about some Republican.

I think that if George W. wants his Social Security plan to go over, he'd better stop talking about it.

If Timothy McVeigh were alive today I'll bet he would wish that he had hidden some dynamite somewhere.

If I were Jesus I would be really pissed off about how my name is being ripped off and used; ditto for Mohammed.

The Japanese should tell the Chinese that people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. But if that applied to everyone, then no one would get to throw any. How bad would that be?

John Bolton, our next ambassador to the U.N. says that the organization should focus more on human rights violations and international terrorism. And all along I thought that he was on Bush's side.

Did anybody really expect Eric Rudolph to say I'm sorry?

If you ever have thoughts of commiting an awful crime, make sure you hide a lot of dynamite so you can bargain with the prosecutor if you get caught.

I really don't know a lot about making women's hats but from what I saw at the royal wedding, I think that the job is open, no experience necessary.

I know many muslims who are peaceful folks and who abhor the violence done in the world in the name of their religion, Islam, but who is their equivalent of the Catholic Pope, who represented a man of peace and love and compassion, who sought to right the wrongs of the world with prayer, love and diplomacy rather than bullets, hostages, and beheadings?

10.4.05

If it’s true that Bush snubbed Carter regarding the Pope’s funeral, then he has shown again that he is a little, little man. Papal funerals are not the place for paybacks.

The poor royal family really can't seem to catch a break; whether it's shaking hands with the wrong person or dressing like Nazis. I'm glad nobody's watching me that closely.

Eric Rudolph: what a piece of work! Owning up to what he did, not because he was standing behind his twisted principles, but to plea bargain in order to save his miserable life. He didn't fear to take the lives of others, but apparently he fears for his own.

Though I sometimes vacillate, I end up coming to the conclusion that people do not have souls that continue on to an afterlife. But, if they do, then animals do too. To think otherwise is arrogant and unrealistic.

All my smart-ass comments over the months (as well as those by others) seem totally irrelevant right now. Tragedy is something that is personally defined and while I know that there are many, many more important things in the world, I am hurting to the core.

I had to unexpectedly put my 8-year old cat, Pearl, to sleep today. Everything happened all once and all I can say is that you either understand or you don't. She will be missed in this household forever.

Don’t you think it’s a bit arrogant to be praying for the Pope? To Catholics, I imagine it would be a little like praying for God.

I’m neither Christian nor Catholic, but I’ve observed that on life- and death-issues the Pope has been the only one who has been consistently for life regardless of the circumstance.

However, his track record for those already born and molested by priests, gays seeking to participate in all the rites and sacraments of the Church, or women aspiring to be church leaders, i.e., priests, etc.: NOT SO GOOD!

Insurance companies and HMOs already decide the level of medical care that you can have, so living wills will become a moot point as they will decide when to pull the plug.
